National Graduate Show 2024

Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts
3 August – 13 October 2024

The Hatched National Graduate Show acknowledges and celebrates outstanding graduating artists from across the country. Nominated by their lecturers and selected by a panel of nationally acclaimed artists and curators, Hatched 2024 features the works of 22 artists from 21 tertiary art schools.

Now in its 33rd year, Hatched continues to provide an important platform for early-career artists, amplifying diverse artistic voices and perspectives that bring attention to the pressing issues and stories of our time. This year’s exhibiting artists address a range of complexities and urgencies, drawing on uniquely personal experiences and narratives, and exploring global concerns regarding the climate and colonisation. They tackle serious themes with rigor and humour, providing moments of levity, hope and healing.

In addition to the exhibition, PICA offers tailored professional development programs, equipping the artists with knowledge about funding opportunities, applying for exhibitions and residencies, and ways of making their practices more accessible. PICA also provides month-long residencies to one interstate and one Perth-based Hatched artist every year. In 2024, Frances Malcomson from the University of Tasmania (TAS) and Kasia Kolikow from North Metropolitan TAFE (WA) undertook residencies at PICA.
